This is our story
A lot goes into making a great bar of chocolate. Natural ingredients full of flavour and nutrients, expert crafting to ensure every bar tastes incredible, and above all, passion. Passion to create real chocolate that’s good for the body, the mind, and the planet.
At Prodigy, that passion is what drives us.
We’re heralding a natural revolution in snacking, crafting velvety smooth cacao chocolate made from natural ingredients and bursting with vitamins. We kick out refined sugar and artificial flavourings, say no to gluten and palm oil, and keep sugar content below 20%. But that’s not all. With the wonder of vibrant raw cacao nibs, natural sugars and sumptuous plant-based ingredients, each bar delivers an explosion of mouth-watering flavours.

For chocolate lovers and the planet
We believe this generation and the next deserve better. That’s why our chocolate not only tastes incredible and does your body good but is made with our planet in mind. That means using carefully sourced ingredients that don’t leave a hefty carbon footprint and wrapping all our chocolate bars in plastic-free, fully compostable packaging that won’t end up polluting our oceans.
Our packaging is plastic-free and compostable - and it always will be.
Our founder, Sameer Vaswani began his career as a Chef and Restauranteur. He harnessed his experience in the food industry when, in 2002, he relocated to West Africa and set up his own confectionery manufacturing business. During this time his eyes were opened to the widespread industry use of cheap, harmful ingredients and their damaging environmental impact. After selling his company and returning to London, he knew his next venture had to target industry change and champion great-tasting, natural snacking.
It's our mission
That’s when the lightbulb moment happened. As a chocolate-lover, Sameer noticed that while there was plenty of vegan chocolate, there weren’t any healthy versions of the tempting, comforting chocolate bars he’d grown up with. He wanted to craft smooth and creamy cacao chocolate that was better for people, and better for the planet. Aiming to disrupt the industry and offer chocolate that was free from refined sugar, palm oil and gluten, and made for everyday chocolate lovers. So, he started Prodigy and did exactly that.
We don't have Fairtrade certification at this stage but we do fully support the practise of trading fairly. We believe in ethical sourcing and work with trusted suppliers that provide, for example, our high quality organic Peruvian cacao nibs.
Our suppliers advocate the direct trade model where farmers and local cooperatives recieve a fair price for their produce, as well as local community support initiatives, without facing the high administration costs and overseas payments of international certification.
Our 'Natureflex' wrappers are certified compostable to the British and European Standard BS EN 13432. These tests involve industrial composting to demonstrate that after 12 weeks no more than 10% of material fragments over 2mm can remain.
Here is a video which shows the composting breakdown of Natureflex wrapper material.
Please dispose of your wrapper along with your food or garden waste and NOT in your recycling bin.
We recognise not every council supports kerbside collection for composting yet, however new legislation is expected to require all councils to offer biodegradble and compostable collection from the kerbside in 2023. In the meantime, we continue to believe that plastic-free wrappers are a step in the right direction !
Most mass-produced chocolate is made using cocoa beans that have been industrially roasted at high temperatures up to 150 degrees. Much like boiling vegetables to death, many believe that the best way to preserve the rich nutritional content and antioxident properties of cacao (which was known as the 'Food of the Gods' by the Mayan and Aztec peoples who discovered it!) is to avoid exposure to high heat.
That's why Prodigy chocolate is made using 'raw' cacao nibs that are never exposed to heat above 42 degrees and are gently ground to a super fine consistency to ensure our chocolate is extraordinarily smooth.
Yes, our products are registered with the Vegan Society and contain no animal, dairy or milk products.
We make our chocolate using a number of key organic ingredients including raw cacao nibs, cacao butter, coconut sugar, hazelnuts and orange oil.
Not every ingredient across our bars are readily available and viable as organic and so you'll see the % of organic content in the ingredients list of our bars registered with the Soil Association (GB-ORG-05).
